Background

I have just completed my 24th year as a freelance writer, editor, designer, and as a consultant to both newspapers and corporate publications. The work has included writing and editing consulting, design makeovers, corporate identity/logo designs, readership surveys, communications audits, and content analyses. The results of my work have led to numerous awards for my clients, and my writing or research has been cited by others more than 100 times in publications or web sites on four continents.

After spending nearly five years as a daily newspaper reporter, copy editor and columnist, I entered communication education and then consulting as a way to combine the joy of teaching with the excitement of continuing to work in professional settings on a variety of projects.

Now, I am even more excited as I reduce my teaching and actively seek more freelance and consulting opportunities. I have begun work on News Design School, an educational web site for journalists at small newspapers. I can provide a number of services for your newspaper, magazine or corporate publication.
