My experience as a copyeditor for both newspapers and magazines and as a college editing professor has always focused on editing that makes the writer's story read as if it were the writer's work -- but better. I can do simple copyediting to substantive editing for you, or I can work with your staff so they can do the same.

As a consultant, I work with editors throughout the copy flow process, from assignment to final presentation. The best story comes not only from fixing mechanical errors, but also from coordinating how the story is conceptualized in the first place by writers, editors, and visual people as they work together to present the information in the most appropriate way for the reader.

Some people refer to this as the W-E-D process, which "weds" the Writers, Editors and Designers into teams that work together on stories, rather than pass it on from one to the other in assembly line fashion. Some editing is just about the words. But in many cases good editing starts with an assignment that has the final presentation already in mind. I can help at every step of the way.
